Infrared Surveys of Equipment
NDTrak technicians have performed hundreds of infrared surveys of offshore and onshore facilities. These inspections offer
invaluable insight into the integrity of the mechanical systems on these facilities. Thermgraphic inspections are non-invasive
and are performed while the facilities are in-service. NDTrak technicians are all
certified ASNT level II at minimum. Examples
of the findings are shown below, along with a short desctiption.
Thermal Image of Fluid levels in a Gunbarrel Separator
Thermal Images such as the one above can aid operators in determining fluid levels in tanks, as well as measuring the level of solids in the bottom of tanks.
Thermal Image of Motor & Bearing
The precursor to failure of both motors and bearings is overheating. By examining and recording normal operating values, failures can be
predicted and replacements can be planned.
Thermal Image of Fuse Panel
Electrical problems such as poor contacts, corrosion, and imbalanced load can often be easily detected by infrared imagery similar to the image above.
Thermal Image of 220 Volt Plug
The plug shown above was badly corroded, resullting in the high temperatures observed. Replacing the plug dropped the operating temperature by
close to 100 degrees.
Thermal Image of Oil Spill (Sheen)
The sheen seen here was caused by a dive boat opening a needle valve. The spill was quickly detected by one of NDTrak's alert technicians.
The facility operators were able to correct
the situation before a sifnificant pollution event occurred.
Thermal Image of Shell/Tube Heat Exchanger
The internal fluid and heat flow can be clearly seen here in this image of a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger. Thermal images such as these can be
used to verify proper operation of equipment as well as failures.
