Phased array Examinations
Ultrasonic flaw detection has been used by industry for decades to perform corrosion mapping and thickness determination.
In recent years, the power of portable computers has increased dramatically in addition to the size and weight decreasing.
As a result of these technological advances, Ultrasonic Phased Array units are available now that are portable, and capable
of performing detailed examinations of welds, as well as detecting cracks, examining castings, and a host of other uses.
Ultrasonic Phased Array is code accepted and can serve as a replacement for X-Ray for most applications.
The benefits of Phased Array are listed below.
- Eliminates Radiation Associated Risks
- Allows 24/7 Inspection Activity
- No Interference to other Construction/Operation Activities
- Position, Type, and Size of Defect can be determined
- Instant Test Results
- Portable
- Extremely Sensitive
- Lends well to Automation
- Typically requires access to one side only
- Data can be saved (Auditable results)
